I think the problem is the repeated influence of violence without consequences EVERYWHERE, not just the media. I'm not sure how we backtrack and start teaching kids that they are personally responsible for their actions. We as adults are failing these children. When we had programs such as "scared straight" and people who specialized in teaching life consequences, groups formed and said they were "too harsh" on kids. This kid has his own rifle for hunting, that comes with a lot of responsibility. The article says

"His attorneys say Jordan is still unable to grasp the magnitude of what is happening to him. He is doing well in counseling, his attorneys and family say."

When I learned to shoot from my parents, rule #1 was never to point a gun at anyone unless I thought my life was in danger. If he's not understanding the magnitude of what he did, somewhere a lesson was skipped. On TV when people are shot, they cut to the next scene, in video games, you level. I'm not blaming either media but we do have to look at how and what these kids are learning, or not learning and from where.

My two cents, yes, our troops were sent over armed, the Haitian gangs are notoriously dangerous, there are bandits and as far as I can tell, sending the peace corps over there with a bunch of whistles and pepper spray would not have done the trick. We did food via drops and helped to restore the ports....my predictions, the Haitian locals will be forced back into the country and then areas like Port Au Prince will be demolished and turned into a tourist attraction like they have in Jamaica and such. Now, to see which country gains the revenue from that is yet to be seen.

They just started doing this in DC January 1st, I'm not saying it's "new" practice per se but I think the marketing shenanigans behind this "going green" farce is going to make this a much more common practice. A lot of people are having trouble buying groceries without having to pay for bags and I think this is big brother's way of deciding for us what we can and can't use and also to slip taxes in under the "green guise" to help pay for some of the spending. I think we can look forward to lots of usage taxes on many items.
