Where convicts lead the good life
Nova says,
Wow...I wouldn't mind being in that jail. Really though, they have a point. I don't think throwing most prisoners in a 'regular' jail does anything except fulfill our lust for revenge. The numbers tell us that most people leave, return to crime and end up back in jail. They haven't learned anything different. Other systems, such as this or the tribal law I saw growing up boast of a much higher success rate. If we are honestly concerned with rehabilitating, not just punishing, we should look at our prison facilities.

Oslo , Norway - The first time I went to prison, it was to an idyllic place with lush woodland, bright-colored houses and the waters of the Oslo fjord sparkling in the summer sun.
It was July 2006 and I was visiting Bastoey,...

Nova I have to agree the atmosphere in prisons far from helping the criminal breaking their behaviors. The GED does in fact help some but, even after they achieve one then they are forced back out in the world still lacking proper education to advance beyond what they was before. In fact, they are worse off! Most businesses shy away from convicts yet 30% never return. Once their debt to society is fulfilled why are they still held back? I have a few years college education, have held several supervisor jobs, have a great job history. Yet I can't find a job even flipping burgers because, I violated the law 4 1/2 years ago. If I didn't have the support of my family and close ones keeping me in odd jobs. I'm sure I would fail society again just to feed my kids! Criminals have nothing else to do but sit around and stare at walls. Why not give them a chance at a college education. And job placement upon release so they don't fall back into the old routine.

well you have to ask yourself this question would you want Chales Manson going to your kids college I dont think so. So well if you do the crime then be prepared to do the time. I in no way agree with the damn privlidges they get as it is they did what they did to end up there then why should we have to pay for there luxuries when some of us out here dont even have half the luxuries they get now.

Read the article. Obviously those who commit extremely violent crimes are not put in prisons like this right away. You're focusing on revenge, not on actual rehabilitation. While that can make you feel better temporarily, it won't help our society in the long run. Rehabilitation will.

My uncle was in the same place as you are, but he has pulled through and runs a successful business of his own now. It just took him awhile. I don't doubt you can do the same.

That's an extremist case Manson has a mental illness. He's too stupid to know what he's doing. I'm talking your average day drug slingers. Yada Yada.

If I depended on my luck I wouldn't have got this far. I do appreciate the encouragement. I business friend of my asked me one of the valuable questions I've ever heard a few years back. I was working construction and he was on his way to his second million. The question contained two parts. 1st was "Are you satisfied where you are in life." 2nd part, "What have you done today to change that?" Little did he know that was my last day swinging my hammer for him. But he was pleased with what I learned from those two questions.

Plans are already in the making it's going to require a transfer to warmer climates than my current residence and a few adjustments in me but, I think it will plan out. I've made several trips to the region I'm looking to be in and financing won't be a problem a couple old friends say one I have my business plan made out to submit it to them and they would back me for a year. The should be enough cushion to get it up and running.
