My guess is that the use of the gun in the photo is what pushed this situation over the line. I have known of a few cases (none of which I was involved with mind you) where drugs and gus were involved. And the way the prosecuters handled the cases were that they were willing to drop or reduce the drug charges so long as they could max out on the gun charges. Why that is I don't know, but for some reason it seems certain prosecuters have a hard-on for gun charges.
