New Jersey is the northernmost southern state. Their laws and law enforcement are ridiculous and outdated. My family are the most law abiding people you can imagine, and even they have had legal problems.

There are tons of nudes on myspace. Just because it says you aren't supposed to doesn't mean that people don't.
It's about time they start looking at the kids about this and not just the parents. People can say it's the parents fault all they want but most of the time the kids are old enough to know better. Parents can't watch everything the kid does.

This is just to much.....lmfao I'm sorry but i am laughing at the dumb ass cops
and the dummies that are charging this stupid kid.I mean go ahead and charge
her with..... something, fine her, maybe put her in juvenile jail for a couple weeks, months, put her on probation for 2 or 3 yrs.not to have any internet during probation.
But some dumb ass might want to make her register as a sex offender !!!???
Don't they have any real sex offenders they need to pay attention to?rapists,
sexual child abusers these are the people that need to be registered not this dim witted girl.

HAHAHA Theres some good parental control there. She should be charged for pornography. You could probably throw in some sort of solicitation charge.
The other commentors are correct, nudes aren't allowed. But the rule is only enforced when found. How many teenagers do you know that follow a rule just b/c they see it written somewhere.
Her parents should have been monitoring her internet usage. Some good lawyering could get a neglect charge on the parents in there for sure.

I think that for a fourteen year old posting her own pictures is really on her. They are her picture and it is her body. Whatever the case may be, she should not be charged with child pornography, but instead be sent somewhere where she can get some counseling because a 14 year old shouldn't feel the need to post nude pictures of herself. Ridiculous is exactly what I say to this charge. Next thing you know, porn stars will be charged with prostitution. Get real people, get real and get this girl some help, don't ruin her life because of mistakes that she is making as a child.

She is 14 yrs old, she knew it wasn't right. She didn't care, she did it anyway. Sex offender may be too harsh but punishment is in order, not counseling. Punishment and parental control.

im a purebred born and raised new jersey "trash" girl.
i am currently 18 and u know what
i've had nudes on myspace since FOREVER
half of my friends are jersey trash
and the other half are prudes
sure this case is on the girl
but for legal stuff? come on now
plenty of people have nudes on there
why specifically select her and target her?
they should target the entire myspc nude population

There are a lot of adults that do what this child has done shouldn't they be charged too? It is all about looking in the mirror. Children learn from adults. No she shouldn't be let off the hook but the shame she will encounter by everyone that has seen them will be worse. Being charged as a sex offender is pretty harsh because there are millions more who won't be charged that are doing the same thing it is not fair.

Yes, they should be charged. I still think she should be charged. Even at 14. If younger kids can be charged and tried as adults then she can too.

I remember when Myspace had an age limit.. i know thats easy to get around but still. This girl is just plain stupid. This is why we have sex offenders.
Posted 4 years ago
right....maybe if the kids didn't post this stuff the sex offenders wouldn't be tempted....what about the kids that are barely old enough to breathe?
Posted 4 years ago
they shouldnt charge her for child porn when she is the "child" in question, and she posted the pictures. FInd who took the pictures and charge them they are the real criminal.
Posted 4 years ago
she could have taken them herself...tripod, auto camera/timer, or even cell phone
Posted 4 years ago
this is true she very well could have but why charge her for child porn like i said before she is the child in question.... now had she not taken the pictures then the person responsible should be charged whether it was consentual or not.
Posted 4 years ago
i see your point and IF that's the case I agree. But I guess we will never know....charge them both

Hmm... this relates to a more recent story...
Like I said, there is definitely no reason for a kid to be taking these kinds of pictures but even still--how can you charge a child with child pornography?
Cases like this should be dealt with but apparently there needs to be a new approach to this particular situation. Having someone live the rest of their lives as a registered sex offender for a misguided breech of better judgment is not a good call.
Child pornography charges are usually seen taken against grown adults in the context of them photographing a younger person in an inappropriate fashion; grown adults who should well know that such behavior is wrong. These are kids, taking pictures of THEMSELVES. Are you going to start arresting kids for child molestation when they discover masturbation?
This emerging problem needs to be dealt with in a meaningful and, more importantly, progressive fashion. Where are the parents in this? Why do these kids not respect themselves and their bodies enough that they are even thinking to do this in the first place? Coming of age, sex, and personal sexuality aren't inherently "dirty", but stuff like this is not a constructive outlet for a young person.
They need to actually address the problem and its roots rather than just stigmatizing these kids for life.

I mean shoot. are we supose to lock up our kids and shelter them from everything.
I dont think so. We already coddle them from the world. They need to know what the real world is like.
ANd if that means having to regester as a sex offender, then I say hell yes.
The parents arent to blame. There is no way you can keep an eye on your child 24/7
