I totally agree. Old people suffering from dementia should not be sent to prison because most times, they do not realize what they are doing.

hell before my g'ma passed she was in i would say the early stages.. she swore my aunt (with whom she lived with) was stealing food and other things from her. It took 4 EMT's to bring her out of my aunts house and get her on the stretcher to keep her from hurting herself or others.

I had a neighbor that suffered from dementia and one night I was woken by screams from her front yard. She thought her daughter was trying to kill her and was chasing her in the yard with an axe. It took 3 of us to tackle her and get the axe away from her then when the sheriff arrived, took 4 of them to get her in the ambulance to the psych ward for eval.

My G-pa had episodes where I was the only one that could talk him dowm even in early 60's but worse in later yrs!!! He had my Dad & Sister hiding behind a tree with his 22 , and he was a marksman in WW2 , My granny called and I just pulled up , asked him if we gonna target shoot day , that i would gather sum cans up...he snapped out of it and said well , think U can beat me today? I just grinned and said I'm doing my best!! He never spoke of it, they hardly did...I don't know they did to make him mad but it did , he wouldn't have shot them , i know in my heart but I guess we will never know. he just wanted sumone to talk to. The day went well after that!!
