I don't know what has happened but once upon a time, lesson plans had to be approved. Whoever approved the lyrics from ANY N.W.A song to be used as an "urban connection" in a composition class has lost their mind. There are other hip hop artists and songs that can achieve the same goal and use less colorful language.

But it would be okay to play a kind of music that YOU liked, regardless of the message?

Come on are they serious these kids are in HS bout to graduate. Whats the big deal???

Only reason I think they are making a big deal is because of the message in the song. I remember at my prom hearing explicit lyrics in the music and there was no big deal about that. Guess they don't want the children questioning why someone would make such a song since this was the "BURBS"

They must not know whats on most of their childrens Ipods. I can understand why you hate rap but there is no reason for you to hate hip hop. Hip hop is a great genre of music.

That is where my head is at, I think they can use hip hop and I am aware that kids listen to it but there is also something that is called appropriate for classroom and I don't that NWA was a good choice for the lesson plan. I think what the teacher was trying to do was great I just think it was done the wrong way.

Here, in White Bread America, just explaining what NWA means in most schools would get you expelled and possibly arrested for a hate crime.
Silly stuff happens here.

The general public is afraid of messages in songs. The Police song "Ghosts In The Machine" was banned in some U.K. country because they believed it held messages for one of the european terrorist groups or something like that.

EXACTLY!!! There is a TON of P.E. that could be used in a freedom of speech discussion without there being a "dangerous" message for law enforcement. They are VERY political.

I remember that. The difference is that was the UK governments interpretation. NWA came right out and said "Fuck the police"...LOL

Being a person of color, there is certain amount of prejudice that still exists NO MATTER how much they deny it.
People in authority positions always make assumptions.
